"Sauvie Island and Scappoose Bottoms, Oregon ... January 11, 2012

The Trip:    Gorgeous winter day ... went to Sauvie Island to look for Snow Geese, Sandhill Cranes, and perhaps the elusive Golden Eagle ... WRONG ... it was "hunting day" on the island and nary a Goose in sight ... we then headed over to Scappoose Bottoms to scope out the area as we'd never been there ... a very nice place ... and well worth the extra mileage as there was a GORGEOUS Rough-legged Hawk along side the road !!!!!!!!! The Locale:    Sauvie Island is nearly 17 miles long and 7 miles wide and is located in the Columbia River northwest of Portland, Oregon. Scappoose Bottoms is the lowland south of Sauvie Island around the community of Scappoose. The Multnomah Channel separates the two.
