Chinese Swan Goose:
The Chinese Swan Goose or "Chinese Goose", is a domesticated goose, descended from the wild Swan Goose. According to some researchers, the goose has been domesticated since about 1000 B.C. in China. Chinese Swan Geese have been called by other names such as "Hong Kong Geese", "Knob-fronted Geese", and "Spanish Geese". There are also "White Swan Geese" and "Brown Swan Geese". The "African Goose" is another domesticated goose descended from the Swan Goose.
The Swan Goose, Anser cygnoides, is a rare (vulnerable) large goose with a breeding range in inland Mongolia, northernmost China, and southeastern Russia. It is migratory and winters mainly in central and eastern China.
Chinese Swan Geese seen in ponds in the Pacific Northwest are considered escapees or descendents from escapees from a private collection someplace, and are not native nor considered wild.
