Sharp-shinned Hawk:
The Sharp-shinned Hawk received its name from the very thin, exposed lower leg of the hawk. Audubon referred to the Sharp-shinned Hawk as the "Sharp-shinned or Slate-coloured Hawk". Nuttall referred to it as the "American Brown or Slate-coloured Hawk".
