Muscovy Duck:
The Muscovy Duck (Cairina moschata) is a large duck which is native to Mexico, Central and South America, with wild breeding populations in Texas. Muscovy Ducks appearing elsewhere are generally escapees, or kids of escapees, from domestic breeding. Muscovy Ducks are the only domestic breed of duck NOT derived from the Mallard. The Muscovy has also been called the "Barbary Duck". It is not known where or when (possibly as early as the 1500s) the duck picked up the name "Muscovy", a term which means "from the Moscow region". The Muscovy was first sceintifically described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758.
