Mountain Chickadee:
The Mountain Chickadee (Poecile gambeli) was discovered in 1841 outside of Santa Fe by early ornithologist William Gambel. Gambel originally named the bird Parus montanus, not realizing this name was already in use by the Willow Tit of Europe. In (???date) Robert Ridgway corrected the scientific name to honor Gambel, but left the common name as the "Mountain Chickadee". The generic name changed from Parus to Poecile in (???date).
