Long-billed Dowitcher:    Ehrlich, Dobkin, and Wheye, in their 1988 publication "The Birder's Handbook", write "The wierd name dowitcher is actually a corruption of 'Duitsch' (Dutch) or 'Deutscher' (German) Snipe.
