Hammond's Flycatcher:
The Hammond's Flycatcher (Empidonax hammondii) was named in 1858 by John Xantus de Vesey, an Hungarian zoologist, after his ornithology friend Dr. William Alexander Hammond, after Hammond gave Xantus the opportunity to do fieldwork in the western United States. Dr. Hammond, during the Civil War, became the 11th Surgeon General for the United States Army (1862-1864).
